The sign on the side of the Polaris Building in downtown Fairbanks states, "Looking for Love, Again."
Now, that search comes with a deadline.
The City of Fairbanks has given notice to the building's owner, Anchorage developer Marc Marlow, he has until March 2013 to either begin renovation work, or demolish the building.
The building has remained vacant for a decade and city officials say it is a health and safety risk due to dilapidated conditions and the abundance of mold.
Marlow can appeal the order, but it is not known if he will.
Mayor Jerry Cleworth says the City had high hopes the building could be salvaged, but after seeing no progress, safety issues are the primary concern.
