FAIRBANKS, Ak - The State Department of Transportation and Public Facilities will not proceed with a road extension proposal that may have cut through Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge.

A proposal to extend McGrath Road and the possibility of construction into parts of the refuge were met with considerable objections from the community.

Cost considerations were also a factor in mothballing the proposal.

D.O.T. will look into alternative plans to decrease congestion of traffic in the Steese Highway and Johansen Expressway area in northeast Fairbanks.
