Dedication and Memorial held for Fort Wainwright Soldier

This morning a special service was held on Fort Wainwright to honor a fallen soldier.

The ceremony was an opportunity to learn about the fallen heroes and gave attendees an opportunity to remember a soldier who gave the ultimate sacrifice, 1Lt. Nainoa Hoe, who was killed in action while deployed to Mosul, Iraq in 2005.

The 3rd Battalion 21st Infantry Regiment Gimlets as well as Hoe's father joined in commemorating his service by dedicating the Battalion Conference Room and Memorial to the most senior service member to pay the ultimate sacrifice while serving with the 3-21st Unit since 2002.

During the ceremony there were numerous readings to honor that ultimate sacrifice given by 1st LT Hoe, all of which had the common factor of great leadership and a service member who led by example.

Allen Hoe, father of 1Lt. Hoe said, “When I served in Vietnam in 1967-1968, this Battalion was a sister to my Battalion. It is extra special that my son got to serve with an Infantry Unit that served alongside his Dad in Vietnam.”
