The deadline to remove winter tires is quickly approaching, and this year it has been extended.
Alaska drivers will be able to continue to drive on roads until May 1st.
April 15th is the normal deadline to remove studded tires for roads just south of Ninilchik and North of the Happy Valley and Yakutat.
The extension was given in order to provide all motorists additional time due to the safety concerns on the still icy roads.
Driving with studded tires after the deadline could result in a correctable ticket with a fifty dollar fine.
