FAIRBANKS- ConocoPhillips and Doyon Drilling announced a new partnership today. The oil company has hired Doyon to build and operate a drill rig for the North Slope. The rig will weigh less than other structures and allow them to use it between the Alpine and Kuparuk fields. Doyon officials estimate that the rig will cost more than $100 million and provide hundreds of jobs. As for the amount of oil ConocoPhillips expects from the rig, they are keeping those numbers private. The rig will begin operating in the February 2016, and Doyon Drilling will be under contract for 5 years.
