"Choose Respect" rallies take place statewide Thursday.

More than a hundred Alaska communities plan to hold "Choose Respect" rallies on Thursday.

The Choose Respect campaign aims to shed light on the issue of domestic violence and sexual

assault in Alaska.

One such rally will take place at noon Thursday downtown at Golden Heart Plaza.

Governor Sean Parnell has made cracking down on violence one of his administration's

priorities.

Alaska has historically ranked near the top nationally in incidents of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Recent surveys have also tabbed Anchorage and Fairbanks, respectively, as the 2nd and 3rd "most dangerous cities

for women" in the nation.
