A late Saturday evening fire caused extensive damage to a downtown duplex, displacing the occupants, but no injuries were reported.
Fairbanks City Fire personnel got the call just after 6:45 pm responding to the upstairs/downstairs structure at 745 8th Avenue.
When firefighters arrived on scene, smoke was seen coming from both areas of the home.
"We arrived a couple of minutes after the call first came in," said Ernie Misewicz, Assistant Fire Chief with the Fairbanks Fire Department. "It's going to be
awhile before we can get in there to see just how the fire originated."
News Center 11 was on scene as first responders arrived, and spoke to the unidentified tenant who lived downstairs.
"I came home from work, and saw smoke coming from the house," the man said. "I called 9-1-1."
This is a developing story.
News Center 11 will have more as information becomes available.
