BREAKING NEWS: FEA, School District talks end after day of negotiations. Scheduled to continue Thursday.

Mediated talks between the Fairbanks Education Association, the local teachers union, and the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District ended Monday evening with the two sides unable

to reach an agreement on teacher contracts.

The two sides will resume talks again Thursday morning at 8:30am at FNSBSD Chambers.

That's according to an FEA news release issued Monday evening.

The FEA is seeking to negotiate a three-year contract with the school district.

The school district is offering a 1 percent increase for each year of the proposed three-year contract.

For the first year of the contract, the teacher's union went into negotiations requesting a $750 longevity stipend for teachers who have reached the top of their pay scale and haven't received a

step increase.

Requested salary increases for the following two years are 1.5 percent and 1.75 percent.

In 2011., the two sparred over some of the same subjects in a well documented, and bitter battle between the two sides.

Teachers worked without a contract during those negotiations for most of the 2011-2012 school year before an agreement was reached.
