A Fort Wainwright Army soldier was killed late Saturday evening after he crashed his motorcycle near the East Ramp of the Fairbanks International
According to Airport Police "Watch Commander" Daniel Pratt, the accident occurred around 6 p.m. Saturday evening near the intersection of Van Horn Road and South University
Pratt says the soldier, whose identity remains unknown at this time, was riding with a group of other bikers, and may have been traveling at a high rate of speed, when he apparently failed to
negotiate a curve when the accident took place.
According to a news release issued Sunday by U.S. Army Alaska, the name of the soldier is being withheld, and will be released after next of kin are notified.
News Center 11 spoke to Airport Police about the accident Sunday evening, one they called (quote) "100 percent preventable."
"He didn't hit any other cars as far as we know," said Pratt. "It appears it was just him probably operating his motorcycle too fast for conditions."
