Borough Transfer Stations to receive upgrades

The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly has approved the funds to upgrade and expand the borough’s transfer stations.
A total of $1 million was approved for the renovations to the borough’s 14 stations.
The upgrades and expansions will most likely begin next year, starting with the first five stations with the heaviest of waste traffic.
The ordinance was sponsored by Mayor Luke Hopkins and had originally asked for $4 million to be used on the sites; the reduced amount reflects the Assembly’s concerns that it wouldn’t have the proper oversight on spending.
