The finance committee of the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly had some tough questions for the mayor last night.
The majority of the committee's work session focused on a land sale in the Angel Rocks area to Chena Hot Springs Resort owner Bernie Karl.
In exchange for creating public access easements to the Angel Rocks hiking trails and other various privately owned mine claims, Mayor Hopkins' negotiating team wants to sell the land to Karl at a reduced price.
The land was originally valued at about 390 dollars an acre, which totals about 580 thousand dollars.
The mayor's office has settled on a nearly 283 thousand dollar discount for the improvements that Karl will make in return.
Assembly members questioned the amount of the discount, particularly in reference to the hiking trail access, and how the mayor's office settled on how much the improvements are worth.
