The U. S. House today approved legislation that prevents the military from using a loophole to close military bases without the approval of Congress.

The legislation was offered as an amendment to the fiscal year 2013 defense authorization bill.
Alaska congressman Don Young, who opposes the move of the F- 16 Aggressor Squadron from Eielson to Anchorage, co sponsored the bill.
Young said today the amendment gives Congress additional oversight over current and future military force reductions.
