The 18–year–old man who tried to drive his Ford pickup truck into the Bentley Mall has been charged with driving under the influence, but his level of intoxication and the substance he was allegedly using remain unclear.
Fairbanks Police say Joseph Wilson registered a breath–alcohol content of zero and told police he had not been drinking, taking prescription medications or inhalants.
A criminal complaint says Wilson told police he had smoked marijuana before he got to the mall but had not taken the dried mushrooms that were in his vehicle.
Officers described him as heavily intoxicated following Thursday's crash that damaged the mall entrance.
Wilson, who was arraigned Friday, remains housed at the Fairbanks State Jail on 10–thousand dollars bail.
