Bear Creek Wildfire fully contained as of July 4, 2012

FAIRBANKS, Ak -- An Independence Day announcement by the Alaska Division of Forestry is welcome news to Interior residents.

Yesterday, containment of the Bear Creek fire was achieved by fire personnel.

Containment of a wildfire means a control line has been completed around the perimeter of the fire.

Crews cut a saw line, creating a 300-foot barrier around the fire.

Fire officials warn containment does not mean the entire fire is out, smoldering pockets of vegetation could still flare up.

The process of breaking down remote camps and removing equipment has begun.

Transfer of command from the Alaska Incident Management Team back to Fairbanks Forestry will take place Saturday.
