Since 1976, the Breast Cancer Detection Center BCDC, has provided breast cancer screenings for women regardless of their ability to pay.
September 21st, one of the bigger Fairbanks fundraising events of the year will take place when BCDC hosts its annual "Gala Affair".
The event will recognize those in the community who have survived cancer, but it will also be an opportunity for members of the community to help the program through their donations.
This will allow BCDC to continue their mission of breast cancer screenings not only in the interior, but for other rural areas in Alaska.
Odette Butler is the Executive Director for the BCDC and says the evening will be fun and exciting
'The gala will start sharply at 6 o'clock and it should go till 8:30.
This year we have Warren Cummings, who is the chief of the fire department Fairbanks Fire Department.
He will be one of our speakers, he is a breast cancer survivor, and we'll also have Cindy Zimmerman, who is also a breast cancer survivor.
