The Arctic Winter Games involve 9 contingents who participate in the tradition.
The purpose of the games is to provide a forum for those in the North to compete; each year a different location is chosen and over 2,200 volunteers have signed up for the games this year.
Today was the last day for volunteers to sign up to help in the Games; Volunteer Coordinator Ashley Johnston says they need help with anything from security to ticketing and helping with the athletes.
There are 20 different sports involved with the Winter Games. Of course there are the expected sports such as skiing, snowshoeing, and dog mushing; there are other unique sports added to the list as well.
As for the athletes, they will be housed in 6 different schools throughout the week.
