According to a release by Alaska State Troopers, patrols conducted during the dates of August 28th through September 1st have resulted in multiple hunting citations.
In the area of the Steese Highway 40 Mile Caribou hunt Fairbanks based troopers made contact with over 340 people and issued 15 citations along with 10 warnings.
These were due to different big game hunting violations and practices.
Also according to Troopers, there have been two search and rescue complaints in which the Trooper helicopter was called upon to rescue hunting victims who were lost or separated from their groups.
Hunters are urged to be cautious when preparing to enter the Alaskan wilderness and to always bring extra gear for unforeseen circumstances.
