LAS VEGAS, NV-The Alaska Flight basketball team is representing Alaska in the Big Foot Hoops Las Vegas Live Tournament. Earlier today both 17U and 16U registered victories.
The 17U team came in the gym with a 1-1 record as they face Impact Basketball, a California team. The Flight took off, cruising to a 72-30 win. The Alaska team had five players in double figures. Tyrus Morgan of Klawock led the Flight with 15 points while Tyler Wells added 11.
The Flight, with a 2-1 record advanced to the single elimination Gold bracket. They need two wins in order to advance to the championship round on Sunday.
Following suit was the Flight's 16U team who also won by a double digit margin. Levi Auble was the catalyst with 16 points and eight rebounds. Monroe Rams guard Jalon McCullough filled the state sheet modestly from the point guard position with nine points, seven rebounds and five assists. Flight 16U will be in the Silver bracket with a 1-2 record.
Earlier in the week the 17U rebounded from an opening loss. Led by Monroe's Tyler Wells the Flight got a 49-42 win over the Stangs of Hawaii on Wednesday.
The 16U team suffered their second loss on Wednesday too. This one to an Arizona team coached by former NBA player Mike Bibby.
Nathan Spence of Soldotna led the Flight with 13 points in that game.
Team 907 which features West Valley's Daniel Hornbuckle got a 64-60 win over the Bay Area Blue Devils in the 16U bracket as well on Wednesday.
The tournament concludes on Sunday.
