Alaska Department of Transportation using new Anti-Ice chemical on roads

Officials with the Alaska Department of Transportation Northern Regions have begun to use a new practice for the roads.

Northern Region DOT teamed up with DOT in Juneau in order to develop a chemical that will be applied to roads before they ice.

The purpose of the anti-icing chemical is to cover the roads, which prevent the ice from forming and sticking to the roadway.

This will reduce the amount of sand and gravel needed in the winter time and make for less slick surfaces on bridges and intersections.
