Alaska Democrats Discuss Medicaid

FAIRBANKS- Today, House and Senate Democrats discussed their plan to introduce legislation calling for the state to expand Medicaid coverage. Representative Andy Josephson of Anchorage, says the proposal is aimed at forcing discussion of the issue. In November, Governor Sean Parnell announced the state would not expand the Medicaid program under the Affordable Care Act, a choice that has left nearly 20,000 people in Alaska unable to afford health care insurance.  Governor Sean Parnell cited cost concerns in rejecting mounting calls to expand Medicaid and says he is drafting a plan which would fill health care gaps among low income people. House and Senate democrats argue the Medicaid expansion would be a smart investment.
