4 players sign national letters of intent to play for UAF

FAIRBANKS, AK-We go up the hill to UAF for their new additions. Hockey coach Dallas Ferguson picks up two players from the Kelowna (Key-Low-Nah) Warriors of the British Columbia Hockey League. Marcus Basara and Shawn Hochhausen signed national letters of intent late last week and will be on board for four years.

Basara, a right winger, racked up 94 points in 109 games and was a First All-Star Team selection of the BCHL. Basara also has 4 hockey titles over his career.
He will pursue a business degree.

Hochhausen, a center, improved his point total every year in junior hockey and is north of 70 percent in faceoff wins in 156 games. He will pursue a degree in Petroleum Engineering.

The swim team also added to their squad as well. Kaitlyn Louthan of Kenai and Kathryn Pound from New Zealand.

Louthan holds three school records and her 25.22 second 50 meter swim time would be ninth all time for UAF.

Pound is a record holder in four different events in two age groups while swimming for Kiwi West Aquatics in New Zealand. Pound will specialize in the distance swims for the Nanooks and Louthan the sprint races.
