3A state champs give out team awards

FAIRBANKS, AK- Last night in Soapy Smith's Restaurant the back to back 3A state basketball champion Monroe Rams had their awards banquet. They recognized the team and players who were vital to their title defense.

The team MVP was Scooter Bynum. Bynum showed out in the 3A title game scoring a quick nine points in the first quarter setting the tone for the 3A championship game.

The George Roderick Coaches award went to Milo Hajdukovich. Hajdukovich grabbed plenty of big rebounds for the Rams in the state tournament and was also a key interior defender.

The Chris Stepovich Toughest Player award went to Michael Hale. Hale led the team in charges taken with 34-two more than his total from last season.

The Most Improved player of the year was shared between Christian Nickerson and Jalon McCullough. Nickerson and McCullough both came off the bench and provided much needed offense and defense for the Rams including starting some big runs during the season and the state tournament.

The defensive player of the year was Tyler Wells. Wells was matched up with the opponents' best perimeter players or made various defensive plays in Monroe's pressure defenses.
