3 killed in State Trooper Helicopter Crash near Talkeetna

Three people were killed late Saturday evening when an Alaska State Trooper helicopter crashed during a search and rescue

operation near Talkeetna.

Around 7:35 p.m. Saturday, Palmer State Troopers received a report of a stranded snowmachiner near Larson Lake.

In a news release, Troopers say Helo-1 responded and picked up a trooper and then went to the search area for the

snowmachiner.

That person, according to the release, was located and picked up around 9:58 p.m.

Troopers say around 11:15 p.m. Helo-1 was enroute to Sunshine Tesoro to meet with medics, but never arrived.

A search and rescue was initiated after contact with Helo-1 was lost.

Around 9:33 a.m. Sunday, the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center located the crash site, and found no survivors.

As of 3 p.m. Sunday the identities of the victims have yet to be released, pending notification of next of kin.
