FAIRBANKS, AK-It was a weekend for hoops inside the Patty Center Gym. The second annual Tournament of Champions featured some of the best ballers in the Interior and in Anchorage.
3 The Hard Way had to win in overtime over Team Chevy to get into the final. Legacy Funeral Home won the endurance award they got to the final by winning three games in a day on Sunday led by former Nanook Jarrett Miller.
Their fourth game was the championship and 3 The Hard Way had fresher legs to start out jumping out to a 25-7 lead in the first half sparked by Sheldon Webb's play. In the second half Legacy got a second wind made it a five point game 49-44 with 10 minutes left.
But Three the Hard Way led by former Seawolves Kenny Barker and Lonnie Ridgeway and company made the plays and held off Legacy winning 65-59 for back to back Tournament of Champions titles and the big check from Boston's for three grand. Getting a bye was a huge factor in their win.
"I mean we're tired right now so we can imagine how tired they are. We knew we needed to get that one because we couldn't handle it. We got some older guys over here. So we needed that rest," Barker said.
"Oh yeah, it feels good, man. Every year it's nice, we get together every summer. We don't get to see each other too often so when we do, it's nice to come out here and do this at least," Webb concluded.
