NORTH POLE- An 11-year-old child was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital after being hit by a van on Brock Road in North Pole.
First responders on scene said the child was struck by the right side of the vehicle while riding his bike.
When authorities arrived, the boy was going in and out of consciousness, had an apparent broken leg and possible head injuries.
Officials said the boy was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and sustained serious, if not life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the van stayed on scene and cooperated with Troopers; he told North Star Volunteer Fire Department's first responders he did not see the boy come out from the trail on the side of the road.
The child's condition is unknown at this time; however, he was en-route to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital where medical personnel had a trauma room waiting after the incident.
We will update this story as details become available.
