Update: George Miller WILL Make Another 'Mad Max' Movie

Thu, 01/14/2016 - 14:54

UPDATE: Thankfully George Miller has now corrected the record, saying that the below quotes were totally misinterpreted on a loud, busy red carpet. Here's what he told The Wrap. “She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, [another Mad Max movie] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another Mad Max. It won’t necessarily be next, but I have two more stories.” So rest assured, apocalypse...

Missing Major Tom: Eight Memorable David Bowie Moments

Wed, 01/13/2016 - 10:21

The loss of David Bowie, who died of cancer Jan. 10 at age 69, hit everyone differently. Maybe his “Ch-ch-ch-changes” was the theme of your senior yearbook, or you found yourself humming “Space Oddity” whenever you gazed at the stars. Maybe his androgyny made you feel less alone, or his art-school sensibilities drew you in. He was a musician, sure, but he was also a fashion icon, an artist, an actor, always out there on the thin edge of invention and social change. Music...

Watch: This New Trailer for 'The Witch' Is Incredibly Unsettling

Wed, 01/13/2016 - 05:26

The year's first incredibly unsettling horror film debuts on February 19 following rave reviews at a few film festivals, and this new trailer does a great job at teasing its creepy, crazy Puritan vibe. Check it out. So what is The Witch?  Set in 1670s New England, The...

Who Are Rey's Parents in 'Star Wars'? J.J. Abrams Knows

Wed, 01/13/2016 - 05:20

Recently, our own Erik Davis explained a fascinating fan theory about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Rey (Daisy Ridley) demonstrates a burgeoning ability to use the Force, as made clear through her connection to Luke Skywalker's old lightsaber. Combined with other evidence, the theory is that Rey is the granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi. That raises other questions, though, such as the identity of Rey's grandmother and also her parents. Since we have to wait until May 26, 2017 to see...

We're only two days away from the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences announcing their nominees for the 2016 Oscars, and while they are the end of the golden statue road, they're not the only awards body around. George Miller Won't Make Another 'Mad Max' Movie

Tue, 01/12/2016 - 10:56

Since the release of Mad Max: Fury Road last may, we've been hearing about more potential sequels. Writer-director George Miller has mentioned multiple scripts and in October said he was in discussion with Warner Bros. for the next installment. But for a movie as successful as Mad Max: Fury Road -- critically and awards-wise more than financially, though it was certainly no flop -- it's been surprising that no official greenlight has been given...

Quentin Tarantino Plans to Turn 'The Hateful Eight' into a Stage Play

Tue, 01/12/2016 - 06:53

Much has been said about Quentin Tarantino using 70 mm to turn The Hateful Eight into a unique cinematic experience. He shot on the much larger film frame and The Weinstein Company fought to outfit as many theaters as possible so they could actually properly exhibit that frame. And not only that, but Tarantino gave this road-show version of the movie a longer running time that includes an overture and an intermission. He wanted The Hateful Eight to be a genuine theatrical event that'll be...

One of These Actors Will Probably Play Young Han Solo

Mon, 01/11/2016 - 10:01

Over the past few months Disney has thrown out one of the widest casting nets ever to find an actor to play a younger Han Solo in his spin-off movie. Reportedly the studio had looked at thousands of actors for the role, which makes sense considering how many different factors will go into the decision. Whomever takes on the role has to have the same arrogant swagger as the character, but also have the same inherent likability of Harrison Ford without it feeling like a bizarre impersonation....
